Connect 4

by onlinegames @ 2008-08-17 - 14:11:15

Sometimes it is quite reassuring to find a traditional game on the internet such as Connect 4 where you know what to do and there are no tricks to the game. Connect 4 which can be found on the Games2go website is just this.

If you go into the Connect 4 game on the Games2go website which can be found in the puzzles section, you get the chance to either play against another player or play against the computer. This in itself is already quite exciting. If you are familiar with the game of Connect 4 then you won't be disappointed by the layout and way the game works. The cursor moves across the top of the grid which is a good representation of the 3-d game board that is used and where you click is where the token will fall.

The aim of the game, if you are not familiar with it, is to get 4 counters of the same color in a row, whether it is horizontally, vertically or diagonally. Where you place the counters is critical for how you can build up your row of 4. There are no tricks to this game and it is very pleasant to play and easy to access.

If I were asked to criticize this game, the one thing I think could be added is a bit of music, maybe some just at the beginning and some at the end to introduce and end the game nicely. Also it might make the game more interesting to choose different colored tokens which can reflect your mood or who you are playing against. Nevertheless, it is a fun game to play, not complicated and there are no hidden extras that may pop out at you.

Atomica

by onlinegames @ 2008-07-28 - 13:27:41

Atomica can be found in the UK website Games2go. This is another of those thinking fast games that you can play to exercise your brain cells.

In this game there are 3 different levels. Level 1 is played on a grid that is 4x4, you have to try and match up at least 3 same colored atoms in a row before the whole grid is filled up. Atoms appear in groups and very quickly. This is not a game where you can sit back and daydream, you need to be on the ball and alert the whole time in order to stay in the game. As soon as the grid is full, the game is over.

The aim of the game is to avoid the atoms filling up the whole grid, when you play level 2, the grid is 6x6 i.e. there are 36 squares that need to be filled up with atoms. You would think then that this is easier to go further but not so at all, you sometimes have to move atoms all the way across the grid in order to match them up with the same color. The 3rd level is a grid of 8x8, 64 squares in total which is even harder to stay in the game for long.

The more groups of atoms that you succeed in getting off the grid, the more points you get but don't hold your breath as they are not easy to get. I liked this game a lot but I do think it could be enhanced a bit with music and some extra action or maybe even some clues along the way to help you play better and give you more of a feeling of success.

Scrape to Avoid Shapes

by onlinegames @ 2008-06-26 - 14:24:25

How to Play Scrape

In Scrape, the player has to avoid all the different colored shapes that appear on the screen. This is done by moving the mouse. But it is not so easy. You can get knocked out of the game very quickly (as I did the first time - I only managed .84 seconds!). But the second time was better. I got up to 5.16 seconds. Once I realized that I just had to stay in the grey (to avoid the colored squares that keep appearing), I understood the aim of the game and thus it was a lot easier for me. Next I got up to 17.04 seconds.

Challenges of Scrape

One of the biggest challenges of Scrape is that while you are in a relatively empty space with hardly any blocks around, you are lulled in to a false sense of security. But then you just never know when the blocks are going to come and surround you. And you never know just which corner to go to which will be safer because of the unpredictability of the movement of the shapes. I guess though it is precisely that unpredictability that makes the game so much fun.

Goal of Scrape

So you are in the mouse cursor in a grey screen. On the grey screen will appear different changing colored shapes (different shapes and different colors). You have to move around the grey colored screen and try and ensure that these shapes - which you have no idea where they are coming from - will not all come together to attack and thus kill you in effect. In other words, stay on the grey and do not get caught out by the shapes. Scrape is for sure a fun game and it definitely is a challenge too.

Throw the Bigger Snowball in Snow Fight 3D

by onlinegames @ 2008-06-12 - 14:00:47

Win the snowball fight in Snow Fight 3D

What I really liked initially about Snow Fight 3D was that the graphics were very cool and I guess it reminded me of my favorite time of the year - Christmas. The aim of the game is to win the snowball fight. The main problem I had with the game was working out how to jump over the fences. I knew that the shift key was to jump but somehow I couldn't get myself over it so that obstacle definitely impeded my success in the beginning. Unfortunately the game does not really contain any clear instructions (at least, I couldn't find any) so that made things more difficult. I only found a list of commands. Going left and right was straightforward enough (just with the arrow keys) and then if you want to move making marks in the snow you use the s or z keys. But other than that I found myself going round and round in circles for quite some time.

Practice at Snow Fight 3D to make it easier

So even though the instructions are a bit fuzzy, I did find that with Snow Fight 3D, the more I played the game the easier it became. I did get to move myself around more easily as I found that the harder I pressed on the shift key, and the closer I was to the fence, the easier it was to actually get myself over the fence. In level 1 you get 8 snowballs to throw. You also have to watch out for the other guy who seems to have quite a few snowballs too. He can really knock you out like he did with me. At least for the first few games it seemed like he was way faster than me at preparing and throwing the snowballs but I realized it just takes time to work out your moves.

It took some getting used to but like the first time I actually successfully jumped over a fence I was really happy and it got me excited to continue playing the game and looking for more ways to succeed. Soon I know I will get really good at winning this snowball fight!

Be Unique in the Meet or Delete Game

by onlinegames @ 2008-05-22 - 13:49:40

How to Play Be Unique

There are 3 choices in each round in Be Unique, a bit like when you used to play scissors, rock, paper. What you have to do in this game, is as the title suggests, Be Unique! You want to give out the most unique answer possible. And if you do, then you get rewarded in that. If you make the most unique choice, you will get 10 points; but if you make the most ununique (most common) choice, then you end up losing 5 points. And if you try and avoid it all by refusing to make any choice at all, you will lose penalty points. So really try and think uniquely before making choices in this game.

How to succeed in Be Unique

Think about it. How do you think you can succeed in Be Unique? Well, for a start, you should try and make a choice that is not at all obvious. But then how do you reach that decision? How do you decide what is NOT an obvious choice? Surely that would end up BEING the obvious choice. So perhaps try and trust your instincts when you make a choice. At least, that is what I did and it worked pretty well.

Enjoy cuteness in Be Unique

I liked Be Unique immediately. It was a very cute game. first, you get to personalize yourself. You get to make yourself how you want to look. You get to choose skin tone, nose and mouth shape, facial hair or not, glasses or not, etc. I tried to make myself look as much like my newborn baby as possible as I was quite obsessed with him at the time I played this game since he was so new. If you do not want to bother with this, you can just press the "randomize" button at the bottom and it will come up with a random face for you but I found it more fun to make my own person. This is a sign of things to come; the game is all about dressing up for different situations. What is really cool about the game apart from all the graphics is how rude the commentator is when you choose the wrong option and are not unique at all! Remember: you do not have long to make your decision either.

Can Nanny Cope in Nanny Mania?

by onlinegames @ 2008-05-14 - 15:21:49

How would you fare in Nanny Mania?

So basically, there is a new family in town, very prestigious and everything. The father is the town mayor and the mother is the mayor's wife, a very proper role indeed. She has a lot to do and then when her baby arrives, things get even more hectic. There is so much going on in her busy life that she decides to hire a nanny to take some of the flack away. But this baby is quite a busy baby and you have to see in this game whether you - the nanny - can handle it all.

Lots of tasks to complete in Nanny Mania

Basically, you - the nanny - are given a lot of tasks to complete. Not only do you really have your work cut out for you in terms of housework, etc., like in the real world of nannying or just caretaking in general, there is a limited time in which to do it all. So the first thing I had to do was clean up the mess. But before that, I had to locate the mess (I was told that it would have a yellow trim to it). So it requires fast eyes to find the mess. To clean them up, you click on them. Sounds easy enough but when you have to do this in a limited time (just like in real life), it is not really so easy at all and can indeed (just like in real life) be very frustrating indeed. To complicate (and excite) things further, there are other people walking around. There is basically a lot going on in a mayor and his wife's life, so you have to clean around it. So do not get distracted by everything; just get on with what you have to do.

After that your task is to change the baby's diaper. Again, you have a limited time in which to do it and there are other things going on. And so the game goes on.

Nanny Mania is a cute game with fun graphics. It is a nice and novel idea for a game too. And it shows those out there who are not keeping house just how much more they should appreciate the people who are keeping house for them.

Get Rich With Dice Mogul

by onlinegames @ 2008-04-23 - 13:20:36

Manage Your Money Well In This Game

Have you ever thought of really trying to make it big, financially speaking? Have you ever thought of perhaps making money by buying property, or perhaps you are just starting off on the property ladder yourself? Well, property is often thought to be the way to make money so why not try your luck at Dice Mogul and see if the property game is for you in real life? That is what I decided to do. I had always wanted to be my own boss as I was so fed up of working for other people. My late grandfather had actually made some money (not a ton, but he had done okay) in property, so when I read about the free game Dice Mogul and saw how it was set up, I decided that I might want to give it a try. It is very much about how you manage your money as you see the different properties and determine which ones you are going to upgrade, but the more you get accustomed to working with this kind of thing, the better aware you will be of whether it is the kind of thing you want to go in to seriously, in terms of business.

How The Game Works

So you are faced with a circular grid. There are four different players (I was blue, but there is also red, yellow and green). You press your button (the dice) and see how far you go and what you will land on. The first time I played, I won $500! Two dice are thrown and that is what your piece moves. I actually thought I was doing well until the other three.

Buy as many properties as you can afford and upgrade them so you will be making a profit from your competitors. Bonus capsules can be very helpful. The way you upgrade the properties is by simply clicking on them with the mouse button.

Beat The Ants At Their Own Job With Ant Buster

by onlinegames @ 2008-03-03 - 16:59:07

Bust the Ants Like You've Always Wanted to With Ant Buster

The ants in Ant Buster are trying to do what they know how to do best - get a piece of food (in this case the cake) and take it with them to the ant hill. We have to try and stop them doing this. What is great about the game is that there are so many visual and practical aids to help you in your task, like the cannons. The cannons will definitely really piss the ants off and push them off track by immediately shooting them, but use them sparingly as they are few and far between. Everything comes at a price and the cannons are no different (costing $30 a piece), so be aware of that.

Practice Makes Better In Ant Buster

When I first started playing Ant Buster I really did not know what I was doing. My greatest problem in the game was trying to aim the cannon correctly. I actually wasted a lot of cannons (as well as money) trying to aim them at the ants. I realized after some time of play however, that it would take time. So I kept playing and playing, despite seeing the cake being consumed very quickly by the ants. The more I played, the better off I became with getting the cannons to do what they should be doing and thus not wasting any of them or spending so much money on them with them not working. So I was happy about that.

It is definitely a cute game and very realistic as you always see ants making their way to their little hills with tiny bits of food. It's funny though as you wouldn't expect them to be running around with huge pieces of cake like these ants seem to manage!

Get Dumbo To Shoot a Hole in One

by onlinegames @ 2008-02-17 - 16:09:48

Play Golf as a Big Hairy Elephant

So finally I get to be a big hairy elephant. And no, before you say anything, it was never a deep fantasy of mine. But still, it is something I have never done before. But that is the thing with these cool free UK games online - you get to be pretty much anything. So with Dumbolf, you get to be a big hairy elephant. And not just a big hairy elephant, but a big hairy elephant who is trying to play golf and shoot a hole in one.

The graphics are very cute. You are faced (well, you being the big hairy elephant) with a mini golf course with trees and hills, golf carts and flags. The elephant's eyes even blink! You then have to place yourself on the correct side of the ball to be able to putt it in the right direction (the first time I tried this game I forgot to move myself so putted the ball right off course immediately). Obviously, each hit gets more difficult as you have to find strategies that will work with more difficult moves. But what is nice about the game is that it lets you mess up as much as you need, in other words you get a lot of attempts to putt the hole the correct way.

Learn The Controls Before Playing Dumbolf

A good piece of advice with Dumbolf, from one who knows (I've played the game a lot of times) is to make sure you work out how to angle your golfing stick before you play the game. Or, for more fun, just try, try and try again until you see that you are actually getting somewhere and aiming correctly. I found that even though I kept trying to play the game and aim differently to get further up in the holes, I never quite managed to leave part (the gauntlet) but I hear the other parts just get more challenging and thus more fun!

Ant Run Pro Junior

by onlinegames @ 2008-02-05 - 16:05:02

I have no idea why this game is called Ant Run Pro Junior as there is nothing junior about it. Maybe the younger generation finds it easier to play this game.

Ant Run Pro Junior can be found in the puzzle section of the Games2Go UK website. It is totally free but very frustrating. Ant Run Pro Junior can be considered to be a building exercise as well as a game of skill and speed. Basically you have to try and build a maze with existing pieces in order for the ant to pass through. The maze is already there but there are different configurations of the path and it is not always easy to guess which way the ant is going.

In order to turn the different sections of the maze which are divided up into a grid image, you have to click on each square. By clicking you rotate the pieces but sometimes they do not rotate in the direction you want them to and your little ant reaches a dead end. There are no extra lives here; if it is a dead end then the game is over.

Ant Run Pro Junior is a game that I believe I will be coming back to again and again to see how far I can get. The more I play the game the better I get and am able to get my little ant a bit further each time. Ant Run Pro Junior demands skill and quick thinking and is a great game to try when you are in the middle of a boring task; it gets your brain cells moving again!

Bunch

by onlinegames @ 2008-01-22 - 10:06:57

Bunch can be found in the Games2go website of UK online games under the puzzle section. As games go, I cannot say hand on my heart that I will be playing this game time and time again.

Bunch is very similar to many other games that can be found in arcades and over the internet. The basic aim of the game is to join together three colored circles by moving other circles. There are seven different colors on the board which is made up of 64 randomly placed balls. In the classic version you are playing against time and need to get as many balls out i.e. three in a row or more as possible. For every 100 balls that you get out, you go up a level. In this version there are 5 levels.

The game is not exactly enthralling although it does have an addictive side to it. Basically you are playing against yourself each time, trying to better your score. At the end of the game, you hear the beeps of a clock advising you that your time is running out. For every group of same colored balls that you manage to maneuver, you get some extra time. There is no help as with other similar games and no music in the background which I think would help the atmosphere of the game.

Bunch is quite boring and monotonous but good for a quick break and definitely keeps your brain cells active. There is another version that you can play within the same framework, called puzzle. For Bunch puzzle, you are not playing against time but against logic. The board gives you patterns that you have to try and match by only going certain directions; the more you match the more you get to do. It is a bit like an intelligence test at school and not something that I would do for fun as I did not get any satisfaction. The same goes for the Classic game of Bunch, I can't say that I will be running back to play it again!

Snipe Out All Colored Balls

by onlinegames @ 2008-01-03 - 10:13:44

This is a fun game that requires some strategic pre-thinking and planning. You get three different colored balls (in level one - each level and each round there are more balls of different colors added to the mix to make it more difficult). You also get some gray balls. With the gray balls you have to try and move the colored balls into their homefield. This is not so easy as it is a case of working out how you are going to move the gray balls so that they will bounce correctly around the colored balls in the accurate way. If you just push the gray ball to let's say a pink ball, it will not necessarily move it to the pink corner. So you have to be able to work out what move is going to result in which ball move.

Improve Strategy in Snipe

One way to improve your strategy and success in Snipe is by looking at the green lines that will be activated once you have dragged and dropped a gray ball to a colored ball. The green line indicates the direction of the shot and if that line turns red it means that the power has reached its full potential. I found that the more often I played the game, the more I learned about which direction the balls would fall and thus how I could ensure greater accuracy. It's a fun game to play but also has a kick; the game can definitely be quite challenging at times.

Enjoy Different Levels and Challenges

There are 3 levels in Snipe. In the first (easiest) level each goal is worth 50 points and you will not encounter any difficult challenges. The second level uses 100 points per goal but if you pass the colored balls to the incorrect colorfields, they will evaporate. At the third (and hardest) level you will get 150 points per goal and all balls will evaporate if you make any mistake by passing them over an incorrect colorfield.
